She cut her first record at the age of seven with her two sisters under Stan Ross and Don Ralke at L.A.'s 'Gold Star' Studios. She took up guitar at the age of twelve and has been working professionally since she was seventeen. Melissa was selected by recommendation and audition to represent the one placement for the state of Nevada, to tour and perform throughout the United states and Europe with America's Youth in Concert. She has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York city, and at The Royal Albert Hall in London. This talented singer/songwriter has worked solo aboard the M.S.Dixie Paddle Wheel ferryboat at Lake Tahoe, and for a time as a wandering minstrel at the popular El Charro Avitia's restaurant in Carson City Nevada.
She moved to England for a while and worked extensively with talented musicians and record producers in Manchester,Liverpool, and London. Just before her return to the U.S. she wrote and performed the theme tune to a six week series for British television, which was produced by Richard Dodd who was George Harrison and Tom Petty's engineer. It was released as a single and well received on the British market.
Melissa's original song, 'The Islands',received an honorable mention after placing in the top one hundred of the Billboard Song writing contest, out of thousands of song entries. She has performed on the Nevada cabaret circuit for the last ten years with her band, The Melissa Dru band. What sets Melissa Dru apart from others, is the fact that she is a real entertainer. Along with her band and Telecaster in hand, she will delight you with her delivery of a song and bring you to laughter with her original and fun sense of humor.
